2020 Primary Analysis: 35th Senate District

The 35th Senate District falls entirely within the boundaries of Los Angeles County. Steven Bradford (D) is the incumbent and has held the seat since 2016 where he won the open seat that had been held by Isadore Hall.

This district shows the following party registration for the three largest political groups (the source is http://www.l2political.com):

Republican- 12.1%
Democrat- 57.3%
NPP- 25.5%

This seat saw a Democrat showdown in 2016. In spite of having just one Republican take on three Democrats, the Republican came in last place:

Steven Bradford (D)- 35.6%
Warren Furutani (D)- 24.4%
Isaac Galvan (D)- 22.4%
Charlotte Ann Svolos (R)- 17.6%

143,324 ballots were cast in this race. In November Bradford beat Furutani by a margin of 53.5% vs. 46.5%. Having two Democrats face off in November is not surprising with Republican registration hovering at around 10%.

In 2020, no Republicans ran for the seat but Bradford did draw an American Independent opponent. Here are the numbers form the March 2020 election:

Steven Bradford (D)- 75.6%
Anthony Perry (AI)- 24.4%

We basically got a preview of November for this race. In November the follow up race between Steven Bradford (D) and Anthony Perry (AI) will take place.

I predict that Steven Bradford will easily win re-election here.
