The 56th Assembly District falls within the boundaries of Riverside County and Imperial County. Eduardo Garcia (D) is the incumbent in this race. Garcia has held the seat since 2014.
This district shows the following party registration for the three largest political groups (the source is http://www.l2political.com):
Republican- 22.6%
Democrat- 48.4%
NPP- 23.4%
This is another seat that has a huge Democrat registration advantage but still saw multiple Republicans run in the primary. Here are the result for the June 2018 race:
Eduardo Garcia (D)- 60.3%
Jonathan Reiss (R)- 14.3%
Jeff Gonzalez (R)- 25.3%
We also saw a total of 52,605 ballots cast in the primary. The November results showed an easy victory for Garcia. Garcia won by a margin of 64.8% to 35.2%.
We saw a lone challenger run against Garcia in the 2020 primary. Here are the March 2020 results:
Eduardo Garcia (D)- 63.9%
America Figueroa (R)- 36.1%
We will now see the rematch between Eduardo Garcia (D) and America Figueroa (R). Garcia is the elected incumbent and Figueroa is a teacher and immigrant.
This seat does not have the metrics to flip. I predict that Eduardo Garcia will win this race in November.
