The 61st Assembly District falls entirely within the boundaries of Riverside County. Jose Medina (D) is the incumbent in this race.
This district shows the following party registration for the three largest political groups (the source is http://www.l2political.com):
Republican- 23.7%
Democrat- 48.1%
NPP- 22.7%
Not a very competitive seat over the past decade. In 2018, it took a Republican write-in candidate to have a contested November. Here are the result for the June 2018 race:
Jose Medina (D)- 99.4%
Mohammad-Ali Mazarei (R)- 0.6%
We saw a total of 36,654 ballots cast in the primary. These numbers are tricky due to one of the only opponent being a write-in. In November, Medina won by a margin of 67.8% to 32.2%.
Ali Mazarei made a comeback for the 2020 election and qualified for the primary ballot. Here are the March 2020 results:
Jose Medina (D)- 65.7%
Ali Mazarei (R)- 34.3%
75,324 ballots were cast in this race.
We will now see a final rematch between Jose Medina (D) and Ali Mazarei (R). Medina is the elected incumbent and Mazarei is a local businessowner.
This is another seat that I cannot see flipping. I predict that Jose Medina wins in November.
