The 63rd Assembly District falls entirely within the boundaries of Los Angeles County. Anthony Rendon (D) is the incumbent in this race.
This district shows the following party registration for the three largest political groups (the source is http://www.l2political.com):
Republican- 13.4%
Democrat- 56.0%
NPP- 25.1%
As I have stated before, any district that has higher NPP than Republican registration, it is not typically winnable. Here are the result for the June 2018 race:
Anthony Rendon (D)- 46.6%
Maria Estrada (D)- 29.1%
Adam Joshua Miller (R)- 24.3%
We saw a total of 38,718 ballots cast in the primary. The Republican couldn’t even get past the 2nd Democrat in this primary. In November, Rendon won by a margin of 54.3% to 45.7%.
No Republican chose to run in 2020; however, Democrat Maria Estrada is making another run for the seat. Here are the March 2020 results:
Maria Estrada (D)- 42.0%
Anthony Rendon (D)- 58.0%
55,952 ballots were cast in this race. Rendon had yet another strong showing.
We will now see a rematch between Anthony Rendon (D) and Maria Estrada (D). Rendon is the elected incumbent and Estrada is running on a platform that Rendon is not liberal enough.
Rendon has the support of the party machine on this one. I predict that Anthony Rendon wins in November.
