2020 Primary Analysis: 79th Assembly District

The 79th Assembly District falls entirely within the boundaries of San Diego County. Shirley Weber (D) is the incumbent in this race. Weber has held the seat since 2012.

This district shows the following party registration for the three largest political groups (the source is http://www.l2political.com):

Republican- 22.0%
Democrat- 43.8%
NPP- 28.0%

Here are the result for the June 2018 race:

Shirley Weber (D)- 63.7%
John Moore (R)- 36.3%

We saw a total of 80,719 ballots cast in the primary. Weber easily won in November by a margin of 63.7% to 36.3%

John Moore made a comeback to run in this seat and squeaked out another Republican in the primary to advance to November. Here are the March 2020 results:

Shirley Weber (D)- 65.7%
Carmelita “C.L.” Larrabaster (R)- 16.9%
John Moore (R)- 17.4%

112,820 ballots were cast in this race. Moore advanced to November again.

We will now see a matchup between Shirley Weber (D) and John Moore (R). Weber is the elected incumbent and Moore is a retired businessman.

This one is an easy call based on statistics and parameters. I predict that Shirley Weber will win in November.
