Dr. Barke is a strong advocate for local control over public education which is why he originally ran for the School Board. He is an outspoken advocate for students. He has lead the efforts to improve safety on LAUSD campuses and is active on many standing committees including: Violence Prevention and Response Task Force, Bullying Prevention Task Force, Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, and Operations Steering Committee.
Dr. Barke is a practicing Family Physician and serves as a Reserve Deputy for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, serving as a SWAT medic as well as a physician for the Search and Rescue team. He also serves as the medical director for a Los Alamitos based non-profit called Pathways to Independence, which helps at risk young women. Dr. Barke attended college at USC and medical school and residency at UCI. He is married to his high school sweetheart.
